More than 200 clients have been assisted by the Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers’ Employment and Career Assistance services since the start of Fiscal Year 2019 (July 1st).

While still on its early stages, the free service has become a valuable resource for those seeking to gain economic security and independence.

The service provides access to job search/ application assistance, resume preparation, referrals to training, educational and employment resources such as ESL classes, Citizenship classes, GED and/ or post-secondary degree programs, and social services linked to economic assistance such as access to healthcare, housing, food assistance, and others.

“There is a great need in our community for more skill-based professionals such as plumbers, electricians, mechanics, homemakers, nurses aids, and others,” said Alirio Pereira, MAPS Director of Immigrant Integration and Elder Services. “We want to encourage those who might be interested in pursuing these careers to reach out to us for guidance and assistance.”

This service is funded by Community Development Block Grant/ Boston; Fish Family Foundation; Foundation for MetroWest; John H. and H. Naomi Tomfohrde Foundation; and the Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation.
