The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) is inviting community members to take part in the third edition of the Annual Chip-In for Charity Golf Tournament, taking place on Friday, September 11, 2020, at the Juniper Hill Golf Course, in Northborough, MA.
The tournament aims to raise funds to support the health and social services organization’s Senior Center in Cambridge, a linguistically and culturally competent space designed to prevent isolation and promote wellness through case management and daily social and recreational activities, including exercise classes, arts and crafts, and nutritious meals.
Co-chaired by Rui Domingos, CEO of MIT Federal Credit Union, and Walter Sousa, owner of Inman Square Wine & Spirits, the tournament will kick off at 8 AM with a breakfast reception and registration, followed by a shotgun start at 9 AM, and then a Luncheon from 2:00 to 3:00 PM.
“We have been working with MAPS throughout the pandemic to ensure that our seniors continue to receive the care they need,” said Walter Sousa. “Not only is the tournament a great opportunity to support all that MAPS does for our seniors, but also a great way to safely spend quality time with friends we may not have seen in a while,” added Rui Domingos.
To ensure social distancing, the tournament will feature a virtual silent auction, and follow the latest guidelines, which include limiting the number of golfers per cart to 1 (except if living in the same household), mandatory face coverings whenever social distancing isn’t possible, and a limit of 90 guests for the Luncheon. Beverage Carts will still make the rounds, and players will be able to purchase cigars, play contest holes, and enjoy other goodies throughout the day.
There are several sponsorship opportunities available, ranging from Titanium Sponsorship at $2500, to Tee/ Green Sponsorships at $250. Businesses and organizations interested in becoming sponsors should contact MAPS before Tuesday, September 1, 2020, and players can submit their registrations until Monday, September 7, 2020.
“Even though we had to suspend the Senior Center when the COVID-19 pandemic started, we have been doing all that we can to ensure that all of our seniors’ needs are met,” said Paulo Pinto, MPA, MAPS Executive Director. “On their behalf, we thank Rui Domingos and Walter Sousa for their leadership, and our community for the continued support.”
