The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) raised $55K at the fourth edition of the Chip In for Charity Golf Tournament benefiting the MAPS Senior Center in Cambridge, which took place on September 10, 2021, at the Juniper Hill Golf Course, in Northborough, MA.

The event, co-chaired by Rui Domingos, President/ CEO of MIT Federal Credit Union, and Walter Sousa, owner of Inman Square Wine and Spirits, gathered approximately 120 community members, business leaders, and supporters.

“Once again our community went above and beyond to show their support for our seniors, and we couldn’t be more thankful and proud,” said Rui Domingos. “We had a great time seeing old friends and meeting new ones, and I’m so happy that we were able to exceed our fundraising records,” added Walter Sousa.

“This year’s tournament was our most successful yet,” said Paulo Pinto, MPA, MAPS Executive Director. “We had more than 100 players join us, 37 amazing sponsors, and our online auction raised more than $3,500. On behalf of MAPS and our beloved seniors, I thank Rui and Walter for their outstanding leadership.”

The tournament was presented by Titanium sponsors Auxzillium IT Services & Solutions, Dunkin’ franchise owners Couto Management Group and Sardinha Family Trust, East Cambridge Savings Bank, Naveo Credit Union, and Rocco’s Restaurant and Bar.

Golfers Humberto Oliveira, Richard Carty, Wally Pennerman, and Ken Crossen were the best foursome of the day, winning a round of golf for 4 at the Juniper Hill Golf Course. In second place, winning 4 gift cards to Rocco’s Restaurant and Bar, were Phil DaSilva, Danny Resendes, Mike Carvalho, and Scott Corbett. The third prize, a Porto Tonic Cocktail Kit, went to Ryan Herrick, Carmon Herrick, Jeff Jensen, and Jon Silva. Brandan Callinan (Men’s) and Lisa Mandel (Women’s) had the longest drives of the tournament, while Tom Alessi (Men’s) and Andrea White (Women’s) got the ball closest to the pin.

A beverage cart made the rounds throughout the day, sponsored by J&F Construction, and lunch boxes were provided to all players, courtesy of Flagraphics, Inman Square Wine and Spirits, and Riverside Management Group. The Luncheon Banquet took place outdoors after the tournament, sponsored by Pacheco Jewelers.

The MAPS Senior Center in Cambridge resumed in-person services in June of 2021 after more than 15 months of limited and remote services due to the pandemic. It provides linguistically and culturally competent case management and support to many Portuguese-speaking seniors with the goal of preventing isolation and promoting physical and mental health.
