The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is warning the public about a growing cluster of botulism cases linked to cosmetic botulinum toxin (commonly referred to as “Botox”) injections administered at Rodrigo Beauty, located at 464 Granite Ave. in Milton, Massachusetts. As of today, 10 cases of suspected iatrogenic botulism are under investigation, all associated with procedures performed at this spa.

Iatrogenic botulism is a rare but serious illness caused by botulinum toxin spreading beyond the injection site, potentially leading to life-threatening symptoms.

Anyone who received Botox injections at Rodrigo Beauty between May 1 and June 4 this year is strongly urged to contact the Massachusetts Department of Public Health at 617-983-6800 or their local board of health immediately, even if they are not currently experiencing symptoms. They may also call MAPS at 718-864-7600 if they prefer.

Anyone who had Botox injections at this location and is experiencing symptoms should go to the nearest emergency department. Early recognition and treatment can significantly improve outcomes.

Patients and healthcare providers should be alert for symptoms such as blurred or double vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, or breathing difficulties following Botox injections.

DPH continues to emphasize the importance of seeking cosmetic procedures only from licensed professionals in accredited medical settings.
