The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) raised $86,000 to support its Senior Center in Cambridge at the eighth edition of its Chip In for Charity Golf Tournament on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Juniper Hill Golf Course in Northborough, MA.
Co-chaired by Rui Domingos, President and CEO of MIT Federal Credit Union, and Walter Sousa, owner of Inman Square Wine and Spirits, the tournament gathered approximately 120 community members, business leaders, volunteers, and supporters who spent the day golfing and networking, while ensuring that seniors continue to have access to a space designed to promote mental and physical health, as well as independent living in their own language and community.
“We are truly inspired by the incredible turnout from our community, who came together to make this tournament a success and support our seniors,” said Rui Domingos. “It’s heartwarming to see so many friends and business leaders dedicate their time and energy to such a meaningful cause,” added Walter Sousa.
The MAPS Senior Center in Cambridge, open Mondays through Fridays, is a linguistically and culturally competent space designed to prevent isolation and promote wellness through case management and daily social and recreational activities, including exercise classes, arts and crafts, educational programs, and nutritious meals.
“I am humbled by the remarkable commitment our community shows time and again,” said Paulo Pinto, MPA, MAPS CEO. “This year’s record $86K will enable us to keep the MAPS Senior Center strong for another year delivering the services that greatly improve the lives of our seniors.”
The winning foursome of the tournament was composed of David Cafua, Leo Silva, Joe Silva, and Joe Cerqueira, representing Amigos da Terça. In second place were Jay Linnehan, Chet Szablak, Fred Faust, and John Crowe from the Greater Lowell Community Foundation. The third place went to the USPS foursome of Humberto Oliveira, Ken Crossen, Richard Carty, and Wallie Penniman. Ken Crossen had the longest drive in the Men’s category, while Derek Beatrice placed the ball closest to the pin. Stephanie Deering had the longest drive of the tournament in the Women’s category and placed the ball closest to the pin.
For the first time this year, golfers picked the best foursome’s name by applause, which went to “The Bifanas” team, made up of Jose Fagundes, Joseph Fagundes, Mike Gravito, and Chris Estrela.
This year’s tournament gathered support from the most Titanium sponsors ever, namely Amigos da Terça; Auxzillium IT Services and Solutions; Brite Builders, Inc; Dunkin’ Couto Management Group; Greater Lowell Community Foundation; J&F Construction; Lafuente Sign and Awning; Metalstone Technologies; MIT Federal Credit Union; Naveo Credit Union; and Sherwin Williams.

A beverage cart made the rounds throughout the day, sponsored by Inman Square Wine & Spirits, and lunch boxes were provided to all players, courtesy of Brum Flooring, Casa Portugal Restaurant, CLM Auto, GEM Wealth Management, and UG2.
Breakfast was provided for all attendees, sponsored by Demelo Heating and Air Conditioning, Everclean Management Company, the Joe & Dorothy Chaves Family Foundation, and Rogers & Hutchins Funeral Home. The 150 Yard Marker sponsor was the Law Office of Isaac M. Machado.
