The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) was thrilled to learn of the election of 7 Portuguese-speakers in November’s Municipal Election.

“This was a historic election day,” said Paulo Pinto, MPA, MAPS Executive Director. “We have never had so many members of our community get elected in the metro Boston and Northeastern part of our state, which is a great sign that our communities are becoming ever more civically engaged and empowered.

Elected in Framingham:
• Margareth Shepard (Brazilian) – Re-elected to City Council
• Priscilla Souza (Brazilian) – Elected to School Committee

Elected in Brockton:
• Moises Rodrigues (Cabo Verdean) – Re-elected to City Council
• Rita Mendes (Cabo Verdean) – Elected to City Council
• Tina Cardoso (Cabo Verdean) – Elected to City Council

Elected in Everett:
• Marcony Almeida Barros (Brazilian) – Re-elected to the School Committee
• Stephanie Martins (Brazilian) – Elected to City Council
