The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) is strengthening its housing assistance services in Greater Boston thanks to a $50,000 annual grant for up to three years from Liberty Mutual Insurance.
The multi-year grant, awarded in December of 2025 through Liberty Mutual Foundation’s Housing Stability Initiative, will enable the health and social services organization to serve an additional 160 low-income community members each year in the Dorchester, Cambridge, and Somerville areas, helping them access stable housing, as well as educational and employment resources.
“We are very grateful for this new partnership with Liberty Mutual to expand our efforts to connect vulnerable families in our communities to these crucial resources,” said MAPS CEO Paulo Pinto, MPA. “Ensuring that our communities have access to safe, dignified living conditions is an essential part of our mission, and it is especially gratifying to see private sector partners like the Liberty Mutual Foundation join in that effort.”
MAPS’ Immigrant Integration Services assists thousands of community members each year with personalized assistance around housing, employment, nutrition and fuel assistance, access to other public benefits, as well as assistance with health insurance and healthcare enrollment, and other essential social services. “With this important contribution from Liberty Mutual, we estimate 50 evictions per year will be prevented, and 80 people experiencing homelessness will be assisted in gaining access to basic services, like healthcare, food, and hygiene,” added Alirio Pereira, MA, MAPS Chief Program Officer (CPO).
MAPS has served the Portuguese-speaking communities and immigrants of all backgrounds throughout Massachusetts since 1970, supporting almost 28,000 people in Fiscal Year 2025. The organization offers free health and social services through its six offices in Cambridge, Somerville, Everett, Dorchester, Lowell, and Framingham.
