The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) marked this year’s World AIDS Day, celebrated on December 1, 2020, with a virtual conversation between the organization’s HIV/STI Community Health Workers, Case Managers, and Dra. Monalisa Barros on December 3, 2020.

The hour-long conversation, featuring delightful musical performances by Anna Borges and Bill Ward, aka Receita de Samba, highlighted the work carried out daily by MAPS’ HIV/STI Program staff, including prevention-focused community outreach, no-cost testing for HIV/AIDS and other STI, and case management and support.

Dr. Monalisa Barros, a Portugal-based Brazilian Psychologist, Professor, and activist, discussed the importance of resilience when dealing with life challenges – from living with HIV/AIDS, to dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
