The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) is seeking award nominations for its 2019 Awards Gala, which will take place for the fourth time at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge, on April 27th of next year.

MAPS is inviting community members to submit nominations in five different award categories: Outstanding Volunteer, Lifetime Community Service, Outstanding Business, Community Service, and the Person of the Year Award.  The list of award recipients will be announced later this fall.

The MAPS Annual Awards Gala honors distinguished individuals and organizations who have made great contributions to the lives of Portuguese speakers and other community members in Massachusetts.

“Our gala is a cultural celebration where business and organizational leaders, volunteers, community members and supporters come together to celebrate the many successes of our communities,” said Paulo Pinto, MPA, MAPS Executive Director. “It’s always exciting for me to see the Sonesta’s ballroom filled with so many friends who come to support us and celebrate our honorees, whose life stories of resilience and generosity never cease to inspire us.”

The private, nonprofit organization relies on its annual Gala fundraiser, as well as government contracts, private grants, individual donations and other resources, to keep offering much needed culturally and linguistically competent health and social services for Brazilians, Cabo Verdeans, Portuguese and other community members in Massachusetts. The Gala raises crucial funds to support these services, while also celebrating the many successes of the Portuguese-speaking communities in Massachusetts.
