The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) is marking this year’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) by expanding outreach efforts and collaborating with other community organizations to increase awareness and offer its services, resources, and language capacity.

On Monday, October 4, the health and social services organization will be at Shedd Park (453 Rogers St), in Lowell, from 11 AM to 1 PM, for a series of tennis lessons aimed at boosting self-care among a group of survivors.

On October 8, the MAPS team of advocates will be conducting outreach in several businesses and organizations in the Randolph, Dorchester, and Brockton areas.

The following day, MAPS joins the Honk Festival, in Roxbury, from 12 to 4 PM, alongside other agencies, where health screenings and COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics will be available.

On October 12, MAPS staff will meet with the organization New Hope, for a discussion about community needs and the August 2021 domestic violence-related homicide of Dianne Silveira, in Taunton.

On Friday, October 15, the MAPS team of advocates will continue its outreach to organizations and businesses in the Brighton, Allston, and Watertown areas and then heads to Framingham, Marlborough, and Milford on October 20.

On the 23rd, MAPS hosts a discussion about domestic violence at the Cape Verdean Association of Brockton (575 N Montello St) at 3 PM, and on October 27, the organization brings its outreach campaign to Lowell, Lawrence, and Chelmsford. Throughout the month, MAPS advocates will also engage in conversations with community members on social media and connect with other providers on Wednesdays to promote MAPS services and programs.
