Following the shameful verbal and physical assault of a Brazilian immigrant woman during an argument in traffic in Framingham on Wednesday, March 29, the Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) reiterates that it strongly condemns all acts of hate, violence, and discrimination against immigrants.
According to Framingham Police, the Brazilian woman was physically assaulted multiple times, leaving her with several injuries. During the confrontation, she was also repeatedly verbally assaulted, including with the despicable words “go back to your country”.
It is important to remember always that we are a country of immigrants and that everyone should be treated with respect and dignity, regardless of their background.
Discrimination based on a person’s race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, or any other characteristic is not only morally wrong but also goes against the principles of equality and human rights.
We were sad to witness such abhorrent treatment of a member of our communities, but we will continue working daily to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion at MAPS and our communities.
