We at the Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) are sad to report that another case of domestic violence was registered in our communities. According to the authorities, Luis Castro Jr., 44, allegedly killed his wife Aline De Lima Ferreira De Castro, 38, with a knife and then hung himself at their home in Hyannis on Friday, September 2nd. Authorities said that two children, ages 7 and 11, were inside the home at the time of the incident and are now in the care of the Department of Children and Families.

Our Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault team is monitoring the case and will reach out to local partners to offer assistance. Our thoughts are with Aline’s family, children, friends, and all those mourning her death. This tragedy reminds us of why we must continue to advocate for women’s rights and the importance of continuing to educate our communities on what constitutes domestic violence, how to prevent it, and where to access help and resources.

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please call 911. To access help and resources regarding domestic violence and learn more about the MAPS Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program, please click here.
