The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) is holding its Annual Meeting on Tuesday, October 30, from 6 to 8 PM in the second floor community center of its Cambridge Office, located at 1046 Cambridge St. MAPS members and the public are invited to attend to hear about the nonprofit health and social service organization’s accomplishments during the past year, and to find out whom MAPS will be honoring at its 2019 Annual Awards Gala, scheduled for April 27, 2019, at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge.

MAPS members will also have the opportunity to vote for Board members in the Annual Election, and to take part in recognizing MAPS volunteers receiving Certificates of Appreciation. The organization is accepting Board nominations from current MAPS members in good standing at its Cambridge Office through October 26th. If you are interested in running for a Board position and are not yet a MAPS member, you can join online at maps-inc.org/individual-memberships/ and then submit your Board nomination by contacting Lucinda Morais at (617) 864-7600.

“We’re thrilled to share some of our biggest achievements with our members and supporters, especially regarding our Cambridge Senior Center, and to announce the outstanding group of individuals and organizations that we’ll be honoring at next year’s Gala,” said Paulo Pinto, MPA, MAPS Executive Director. “We were very fortunate to receive the support of so many community members and business leaders over the past year, who were tireless in their commitment to our Senior Center, and our Annual Meeting will be an opportunity to highlight that generosity.”

The MAPS Annual Awards Gala honors distinguished individuals and organizations who have made great contributions to the lives of Portuguese speakers and other community members. The organization hands out five awards at the yearly Gala: Outstanding Volunteer, Lifetime Community Service, Outstanding Business, Community Service, and the Person of the Year Award.
