The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) invites community members and supporters to attend its 9th Annual Chip In for Charity Golf Tournament on Friday, September 11th, 2026, at the Juniper Hill Golf Course in Northborough, MA. This signature fundraising event aims to raise $90,000 to sustain the vital services provided by the MAPS Cambridge Senior Center, an essential space for group activities, nutritious meals, individual support, and cultural connection for older Portuguese-speaking adults.
The tournament kicks off at 8:00 AM with breakfast and registration, followed by a shotgun start at 9:00 AM, and brings together over 100 community members, business leaders, and golf enthusiasts. It includes an 18-hole competition, banquet, online auction, and other fun challenges and games throughout the day.
There are several sponsorship opportunities available, ranging from Presenting sponsorships at $5,000 to Tee/Green sponsorships at $400. Interested sponsors and players are encouraged to learn more and register at maps-inc.org/golf, or contact Elena Joy, MAPS Development and Communications Manager, at 617-864-7600 or [email protected]. Some of the sponsorship levels include complimentary player registrations, but anyone can register online at $200 per player, which includes all golfing fees, beverages, boxed lunch, and luncheon at the end.
“The enthusiasm we see year after year speaks volumes about how much this cause resonates in our community,” said tournament co-chair Rui Domingos, CEO of MIT Federal Credit Union. “Supporting the Senior Center means investing in the well-being and quality of life of our seniors, and we can’t thank our supporters enough for believing in this cause”.
“This event is a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when the community comes together around a shared purpose,” said Walter Sousa, tournament co-chair. “The Senior Center is more than a service; it is a second home for our seniors.”
“After nine years, it still amazes me to see all these business leaders and supporters come together to make our seniors’ lives better,” added MAPS CEO Paulo Pinto, MPA. “Thanks to their generosity, our center has more members and is more vibrant than ever! The support, friendship, and care our seniors enjoy truly contribute to their physical and mental well-being in countless ways.”
The MAPS Cambridge Senior Center is a linguistically and culturally competent space designed to prevent isolation and promote wellness through comprehensive case management and daily social and recreational activities, including exercise classes, arts and crafts, and nutritious and culturally appropriate meals. It currently serves nearly 70 Portuguese-speaking seniors from Portugal, Brazil, Cabo Verde, and other countries, Monday through Friday on the second floor of the health and social services organization at 1046 Cambridge Street.
MAPS has served Portuguese speakers and other communities in Massachusetts since 1970, including almost 28,000 people in fiscal year 2025. The organization offers free health and social services through its six offices in Cambridge, Somerville, Dorchester, Everett, Framingham, and Lowell.
